Kepler Track Heli-Hike

Your adventure begins with a private journey from Queenstown through Southland’s rolling farmland to Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park. Here, board your helicopter for a scenic flight over Lake Te Anau, watching the shoreline, forested slopes and mountain ridges unfold beneath you.

A high alpine landing in the Kepler Mountains offers a special opportunity to step into a remote mountain setting and appreciate the immense scale of Fiordland. Take in sweeping views across rugged peaks and valleys before continuing by helicopter to Luxmore Hut, perched at 1,085 m above Lake Te Anau.

From the hut, join your private guide on the Kepler Track and climb through open alpine tussock towards the 1,472 m summit of Mt Luxmore. As you gain height, the views broaden across the lake and surrounding mountains. Your guide sets the pace around your group and the day’s conditions, with time to pause, take photographs and enjoy the alpine landscape.

The journey continues with a descent from the open tops into native beech forest. Expansive mountain views give way to a quieter world of leafy canopies, mosses and ferns, revealing a different side of Fiordland with every change in elevation. Arrive at Brod Bay on the shores of Lake Te Anau, where a boat transfer completes your journey back across the water.

Helicopter access lets you experience the Kepler Track’s alpine scenery without the long uphill approach from the lake. The substantial walk down makes this a rewarding, active day, combining the exhilaration of flight with the deeper connection that comes from exploring on foot.
