Mueller Hut Overnight Trek : 2-Day Experience
A red hut perched high on an alpine ridge, overlooking the icefalls and glaciers of Aoraki / Mt Cook. This private overnight hike leads you into the high alpine environment of the Sealy Range — with time to settle in, breathe, and experience the mountains at an unhurried pace.
Depart from Queenstown or Wānaka and travel into Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park. The hike begins with a steady climb past Sealy Tarns and up into the open alpine terrain. Your guide sets a supportive pace and manages route decisions to ensure a relaxed and safe ascent.
Arriving at Mueller Hut, settle into the quiet of the high mountains. The evening is simple and calm — a warm meal, time to unwind, and the stillness of the alpine environment.
The following morning is the true highlight of the trip. Sunrise from Mueller Hut is remarkable — the first light washes across Aoraki, Mt Sefton, and the glaciers below, revealing scale and detail that can’t be seen at any other time of day.
After sunrise and breakfast, your guide will offer the ascent of Mt Olivier for those wishing to go higher. The short climb leads to a summit with expansive views across glaciers, ridgelines, and the Hooker Valley far below. After time at the top, return to Mueller Hut and begin the descent back to the valley floor.
Additional note: Stays in the hut are subject to availability. As an alternative, we offer camping options if the hut is unavailable. Camping gear is available for rental at no additional cost.
